Midas Tanks

Midas Tanks Limited was a Worcestershire based storage tank supplier of Single Skin and Bunded Fuel Oil Tanks, with manufacturing operations in Portadown, Co. Armagh. The company lost its golden touch in 2006 and ceased trading, with debts of almost £1.5m. Midas Tanks’ assets were subsequently sold to Tradechart Limited.

Tradechart relocated production operations from Northern Ireland to Worcestershire, where the manufacture of tanks under the Midas brand re-commenced. Tradechart followed Midas into administration in early 2008 with debts of over £400,000. Following the demise of Tradechart, the manufacture of Midas brand tanks was discontinued and technical support withdrawn.

Supply

Midas Tanks were supplied through Midas Tanks Limited and Tradechart Limited to fuel distributors, plumbers’ merchants, builders’ merchants and oil tank installers, primarily in Great Britain, the Channel Islands, Isle of Man and a small number of export markets. Only small quantities of Midas Tanks were supplied to customers in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

At no time did Fuel Tank Store supply any products manufactured by either Midas Tanks Limited or Tradechart Limited.

Warranty

Midas tanks were supplied with conditional warranties of up to 10-years. Any product warranty will have now expired. Unused and second-hand Midas tanks do occasionally still appear for sale online. However, anyone considering the purchase of such a tank should be aware it will be supplied without manufacturer warranty or support.

Tank Replacement

Given the manufacture of Midas brand tanks has ceased, it is no longer possible to replace an existing Midas brand tank with another. The good news however is that other manufacturers produce tanks of a similar capacity and with similar ‘footprint’. Below, we’ve listed Midas models, together with suggested replacement tanks from Carbery Plastics, Diamond Tanks and Harlequin Manufacturing.

Replacement: Midas Single Skin Plastic Heating Oil Tanks

Midas' range of Single Skin Heating Oil Tanks comprised 5 models in a range of capacities from c.1,200 litres to c.2,500 litres. All models were supplied as standard with a Bottom Outlet Oil Tank Fitting Kit. Early models also featured an Apollo Ultrasonic Oil Monitor, whilst later products were supplied instead with a Hydrostatic Oil Tank Contents Gauge.

Like the company's range of Single Skin Tanks, all Midas Bunded Tanks were supplied as standard with a Bottom Outlet Oil Tank Fitting Kit. Early models also featured an Apollo Ultrasonic Oil Monitor, whilst later products were supplied instead with a Hydrostatic Oil Tank Contents Gauge.

Midas Fuel Centre Bunded Plastic Diesel Storage and Dispensing Tanks

Midas offered a limited range of Bunded Diesel Storage and Dispensing Tanks, in a choice of capacities from c.1,350 litres to c.5,000 litres. The smaller capacity models, were repurposed Bunded Heating Oil Tanks, fitted with a fuel delivery system. The 5,000 litres model combined the company's 5000BVM Bunded Heating Oil Tank and combined it with a 'bolt-on' cabinet, incorporating the fuel transfer system. It is understood that only limited quantities were shipped, prior to the company's demise.
